A CULINARY TWIST WITH EDIBLE OLIVE OIL CANDLES

Recipe: Edible Butter Olive Oil Candles

Crafted for those who value taste and presentation, these candles are both a conversation starter and a flavour enhancer.

Ingredients:

250g salted butter
1 head of garlic
1 Tbsp African Gold Extra Virgin Olive Oil (+ extra for drizzling)
Pinch of salt
1 Tbsp fresh herbs (e.g., thyme, oregano, basil, or rosemary)
1 250ml paper cup, cling wrap, ramekin, or small bowl
1 food-safe edible candle wick (organic hemp/beeswax)
Fresh baguette or favourite bread
 
Method:

Preheat the oven to 200°C.
Soften butter at room temperature in a mixing bowl.
Cut off the top of the garlic bulb, drizzle with African Gold Extra Virgin Olive Oil, sprinkle with salt, wrap in tinfoil, and bake for 45–60 minutes.
Once cooled, squeeze the roasted garlic cloves into the softened butter.
Mix in African Gold Extra Virgin Olive Oil, salt, and herbs until well combined.

Set the candle using one of these methods:

Paper cup: Cut a small hole in the bottom, string the wick through, fill with the butter mixture, and refrigerate until firm.

Cling wrap: Spoon butter mixture onto cling wrap, place the wick in the centre, roll into a cylinder, and refrigerate until firm.

Ramekin or bowl: Spoon the mixture in, place the wick, and refrigerate.

Once firm, unmould or slice the candle as needed.
To serve, light the candle, let it melt slightly, and dip bread for a luxurious, flavourful experience.
